An evening of talk story: experiences, reflections and lessons learned

Francis S. Oda is the Chair Emeritus of G70, a sustainable design architecture, civil engineering, planning, and interior design firm in Hawai‘i. Projects include city planning, tourism development, housing and settlement, commercial centers, natural resource management, historic preservation and sustainability. Francis is currently engaged in projects in Tahiti, Indonesia, Mexico and Hawaii. Francis is Senior Pastor Emeritus of New Life Church Honolulu, which is located in Chinatown, Honolulu and focuses on aiding the most needy in the area. He also serves as Board Chair of Hawai’i Public Radio and is Global Chair of Transform Our World (TOW), a Christian movement in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. He also serves on on the boards of several local and international organizations.

Francis received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University, and a Doctor of Architecture degree from the University of Hawai‘i. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA), a Certified Planner (AICP), and a certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP). His work in architecture and planning shows a sensitivity to place, culture and sustainability in the U.S. and throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim. His work has been published in national and international journals, including: Architectural Digest, Architecture in Hawai‘i, the Architectural Guide to the Bay Area, and Religious Buildings. Recognized with numerous design awards for his projects, he also received the National AIA Honor Award, the highest award given for a constructed building in the United States.

Francis is a Mānoa Forum Scholar of the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and is recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of the University. He was selected and awarded as Pacific Business News Leader of the Year, installed in The Hawai‘i Business Hall of Fame, and also received the Humanitarian Award from the American Institute of Architects, Hawai‘i Chapter. Francis continues to serve on numerous professional and community boards.

This event is 21 and over. Snacks and refreshments will be served. All proceeds go to the preservation of Liljestrand House.
