Van Keppel Green Furniture Restoration

A huge mahalo to Liljestrand Foundation Advisory Board Member, John Reyno @hawaiimodern for restoring our Van Keppel-Green pool furniture: 4 loungers, 2 chairs and 2 ottomans.  They are back where they belong and are absolutely stunning.  It took nearly 12,000 feet of cord to wrap all of the pieces!  We thank John from the bottom of our midcentury loving hearts for all of his amazing work.  Interesting historical tidbit – Howard and Betty purchased the set (which originally included 13 pieces) for $806 in 1955 from Imogen! See photos below for the dismal state of the loungers prior to restoration and excerpts from the original Van Keppel Green catalog. Beautiful photo of John enjoying one of the lounge chairs by Kristen Reyno @kristenhookphotography

So incredibly refreshing to see a residence unmolested by unsympathetic ownership. The personal touches, stories and tales from the last 67 years provide an amazing tapestry from which we can appreciate this architectural masterpiece. May the preservation of this house inspire not only its’ preservation but also that of other modernist examples in Hawai`i. Thank you.
