Dining Room Rug

Dining Room Rug

The Liljestrands commissioned handloomed wool rugs from Ireland for the living room, library and dining room in 1953. A signature feature of the interiors of the house, guests often comment about how good they feel underfoot, even at 70+ years old.

The edge of the rug along the windows in the dining room began disintegrating over the past several years. In an effort to arrest the damage, we had the rug trimmed and rebound by Mike Yano of Mike’s Carpet and Drapery. It’s slightly shorter than the original size but back where it belongs, hopefully for many more years to come.

What a transformative experience to view such an innovative and functional work of art that people happened to live in!
