Modern Hawai`i and the Future of the Liljestrand Foundation is the fourth and final segment of a four-part program, Modern Hawaii and the Liljestrand House, which coalesces the issues of immigration and design. In total, Modern Hawaii poses the Liljestrand House as a cultural construct of the place, time and human aspiration which created it 73 years ago in relation to its meaning and mission today.
Since 2007, the Liljestrand Foundation has preserved this highly regarded icon of Hawaii’s mid-twentieth century architecture on a majestic site overlooking urban Honolulu. Commissioned by Dr. Howard and Betty Liljestrand in 1948, designed by noted architect Vladimir Ossipoff, FAIA (1907-1998), and built by T. Takahashi, general contractor, the Liljestrand House attained international recognition upon its publication in House Beautiful magazine as the “Pace Setter Home of 1958.”
As we honor our past and look to the future, and after having recently undergone a strategic planning process and updates to our mission and vision, we’d like to share where we are as an organization today and initiate a discussion with our audience about the work of the Foundation. Please join some of our leadership team for a live conversation about our mission, vision and the role of the Liljestrand House in our community. Audience members will be able to submit questions via the chat box during the program.
