Barwa Lounge Chairs

Before the Van Keppel Green furniture that is still there today, there was a pair of Barwa lounge chairs on the pool deck. Betty Liljestrand purchased them in 1952 and had them recovered in 1955. The Barwa chair was designed by Edgar Bartolucci and John Waldheim and introduced in 1947. Our facilities and events manager, Trudy, unearthed the aluminum frames in the garden in 2020. Amazingly, they were in pretty good condition. Bob Liljestrand restored the frames and Ben Breard of www.barwachair.com created new custom covers.  Check out his website for information on all things Barwa!

See image gallery for the original receipts and photo of chairs by the pool, circa mid-1950s.

The tour of this amazing home is the highlight of my visits to Hawai‘i. And I’ve been here twenty-three times.”
